Orinda Action Day
Join us for Orinda Action Day on Saturday, April 25 at 9 a.m. and help make a visible difference in our community! Volunteers of all ages can take part in a variety of beautification projects, with options suited for families, teens, and adults alike. Kids can also enjoy the 2nd Annual Earth Care Carnival, hosted by Mindful Littles, while volunteers receive snacks and a light lunch. Children’s Used Book Sale
Friends of the Orinda Library is hosting another popular children’s book sale. Gently used books for children ages 0-13: board books to Middle School series. Fill a bag for $10, or buy single titles for $1.00. All proceeds benefit the Orinda Library. From 10am-1pm. BONUS: Free simple face painting for the young and young at heart!
Free Historic Theatre Tour
FREE Tour of the Historic Orinda Theatre with Film Critic and Author, Matías Bombal About the Orinda Theatre: The Modern Baroque Orinda Theatre was designed by architect Alexander Aimwell Cantin for Donald Rheem who opened it December 27, 1941. Notable among its appointments were auditorium wall and lobby ceiling murals by Anthony Heinsbergen with pioneering use of UV pigments in the paint which made the murals glow under “black’ light. A developer bought the property in 1984 with plans to demolish the theatre to build a shopping center. A grass-roots movement sprung up to convince the community at large of the value of saving it; after many struggles the shopping center was built around the theatre, which was renovated and re-opened in 1989. A new “movie palace wing” was added in 1996 with two more screens in vintage-style auditoriums. […]

Alex Filippenko – ONE Community Speakers Series
Join Orinda Network for Education (ONE) for a special evening with world-renowned astrophysicist, UC Berkeley professor, and Orinda resident, Alex Filippenko. In his talk, “Exciting Results with NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope,” we’ll discover how the James Webb Space Telescope reveals newborn stars, cosmic dust, and secrets the Hubble Space Telescope could never show. The event takes place at the historic Orinda Theatre, located at 4 Orinda Theatre Square. Guests will enjoy ample underground parking and easy access within walking distance from BART. MOFD Open House
Join us for the Moraga-Orinda Fire District open house. May 2, 2026 from 11AM-1PM at 33 Orinda Way, Fire Station 45. Twice a year, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District holds an Open House – in Orinda in May, and in Moraga during Fire Prevention Week in October. The goal of our Open House is to provide an opportunity for the public to interact with our firefighters and to learn of the services provided by the District and other associated agencies. The public is also able to learn about information concerning public safety, all-risk education and community outreach programs.
