Public Art

Creativity is a treasured value in Orinda, brought to life through art in community spaces. Outdoor public art is organized by the Arts in Public Places Committee through the Art in Public Places program, or “ArtSpace Orinda”, established in 2007 by the Orinda City Council and managed by City staff. Its mission is to recognize artists as important cultural resources, broaden public awareness and encourage dialogue about public art.

The Lamorinda Arts Council facilitates and curates the indoor gallery exhibits, highlighting local and regional artists and community interest. It also supports Artify Orinda, which brings public art to utility boxes, Bigbelly Smart waste and recycle stations throughout town. For a full list of current public art locations, visit the locations page on ArtSpace Orinda.

Get Involved

The Art in Public Places Committee (APPC) meets monthly and actively encourages resident participation, offering opportunities for community members to volunteer, donate, sponsor installations or join workshops and public art tours. Through ArtSpace Orinda, residents can also support the City’s rotating outdoor sculpture program. Youth, emerging artists and local creatives are welcome to participate in exhibitions and civic art programming, helping to strengthen Orinda’s growing public arts community.
